Completed: Get a Tattoo
December 12, 2011
Ugh, where to begin on this one. Yea...I did it. I got a tattoo finally. I've known what I've wanted for a few years, it was just a matter of going and doing it. Which I did. The thing is...well let me start from the beginning.
Saturday morning I woke up with that post-drinking fogginess in my head. The one that makes bad, unthought-out ideas seem attractive and like good ideas. While driving to the fraternity house, I drove past a tattoo parlor and thought "Hey, why not? I've got some time." So I walked inside.
Alarm bells went off immediately. The place was empty besides one guy in pajama pants who looked like he was nursing a worse hangover than I was. I was looking around for the artist when pajama pants asked if he could help me.
It clicked, and I should have left right then and there...but I didn't. [...]
Completed: Gamble in Atlantic City
October 15, 2011
In mid October Marshall and I took Friday and Monday off and spent four days on a 1000 mile road trip along the Atlantic Coast. We ended up hitting four different cities, but only one was really on my "Fucket List" per se - Atlantic City. This was the ultimate destination, and the last one on the trip, so I'll start with the other places we stopped in on the way.
It started with a nine hour straight drive from Boston to Maryland where Marshall's parents live. We stopped one time to get food, and made great time. Marshall drove the entire time, and then about an hour out asked me to take over so he could get some rest. I did, and promptly got pulled over. Twice. Once for having a broken tag light (license plate light, didn't even know that existed) and once for speeding. We got warnings both times, thankfully, as they could see we weren't drunk and were just trying to get to our destination. Side note - this is I think the sixth or seventh time I've been pulled over without getting a ticket. My lives are running out... [...]
Completed: Go to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival
September 20, 2011
I want to make one thing clear here before I start this. I love bourbon more than my own grandmother. Like most things in life, my relationship in bourbon started out on shaky grounds. In fact, I hated the stuff, and it was a joke between me and my roommates about how the drinks we made had "Too much bourbon", but we drank them anyways because we were broke college kids. And then, it kind of just...stuck. And a few years later, I absolutely love it.
We had talked about going to the Kentucky Bourbon Festival as a joke for a while, and eventually one summer decided to sit down and buy plane tickets to Louisville and just do it. And so, we did.
Below are my accounts of what happened on that long weekend. There will be gaps in the story. Some things may not be in order. Why?
I was literally DRUNK the entire time I was there, morning to night, from Friday leaving Boston to Sunday arriving in Boston.
I am just now assembling the pieces of the story from the pictures I took and from a little notebook I kept. I hope its enough to make some sense of one of the best weekend of my life.
So, here goes...
Hiking the Appalachian Trail: Franconia Ridge
September 4, 2011
About a month after my first camping trip in the Appalachians, I was able to get to the same are one more time before the weather got too crappy. We parked a mile further down than last time and walked up what was supposed to be a better trail. (Last month's ascent was absolutely ridiculous.) The trail took us up a slower ascent along a river, and was very scenic at certain points, especially near some of the waterfalls. [...]
